We are right around the corner from warm weather, lighter hair, beach days, and plenty of sunshine. Summer hair is one of our favorite things, and we wanted to bring together a guide for the best summer hair.

We cover our favorite summer hair inspiration, our favorite products for going lighter, and care tips to keep your extensions looking great all summer long.

Summer Hair Inspiration

Now is a great time to start thinking about your summer hair. Check out our "Summer Hair 2022" Pinterest board. We found a selection of summer colors, cuts, and hairstyles to have you ready to rock for summer. See some of our favorites from the Pinterest board below.

Summer is best served with lighter locks.

One of the downsides of lighter hair is the damage that can come with it. We discovered that the K18 hair products are the best in the game. Professionals use their “Repair Mist” A pre-service treatment that strengthens hair before a chemical or lightening service. While this product "leave-in molecular repair hair mask," can be used at home to help treat damaged hair. It uses a special peptide to help reverse the effects of heat, bleach, and other environmental influences. For all the information on this fantastic product, read their full breakdown here.

Summertime is the BEST, but it's hard on extensions.

If you choose to swim with your extensions, we recommend following the following steps for keeping your hair safe:
  1. Wet your hair
  2. Add a generous amount of leave-in conditioner.
  3. Pull your hair back into a braid before entering the ocean, pool, or lake
*Your hair is like a sponge and will soak up whatever liquid it comes in contact with first, so fill your hair with water and leave-in conditioner to prevent it from drying out).
Once you are done enjoying the water, follow these steps:
    1.  Blot dry excess water and never rub a towel on the extensions, causing friction.
    2. Use a clarifying shampoo and very moisturizing conditioner upon completion.
    3. Add in your leave-in condition again.
    4. Take your time combing it out. Start at the bottom with a wide-tooth comb and work your way to the top when combing out your hair.
*Minerals found in large bodies of water and chlorine can react negatively with extensions. Platform Hair Extensions is not responsible for any negative reactions. We suggest limiting contact with saltwater and chlorine (ocean or pool).

Sunscreen Warning

Most sunscreens contain chemicals that may permanently discolor or stain hair extensions — especially those extensions lighter in color. The most common of these chemicals are Avobenzone and Octocrylene. Use mineral sunscreens such as Bare Republic Mineral Sunscreen or SunBum Mineral Sunscreen to avoid discoloration of your extensions.
